These are the best highlighters for thin paper that you can find in the market right now:

  • Sharpie Accent Gel Highlighter
  • Zebrite Double Ended Bible Highlighter Set
  • Mr. Pen No Bleed Gel Highlighter
  • Inamio Pastel Highlighter
  • BLIEVE Bible Pastel Highlighters

It is pretty annoying when all you wanted is to just highlight your favorite line in a book that you love, or you just want to take note of all the important information in your textbook, but then your highlighter decides that it will bleed through the other side of the page.

And if you are lucky enough, it will also volunteer to highlight the page next to it.

Whenever this happens, we all roll our eyes out of frustration, remember the brand of the highlighter we just used so that we will no longer buy it ever again.

If you struggle with the same problem, we hunted down the best highlighters for thin paper, and we have listed them to save your money and time.

Which highlighter is best for thin paper?

In general, if you are going to highlight texts written on thin paper, you have to look for a highlighter that dries quickly, does not bleed through pages, or smears and rubbed off when touched or when it comes in contact with your hand or your pen.

The problem is, a lot of highlighters claim to have them all.

To help you out, here are the best highlighters for thin paper that we have tried and tested so you don’t have to waste your time and effort looking for the one that suits your taste best.

Sharpie Accent Gel Highlighter

The Sharpie Accent Gel Highlighter comes in different fluorescent colors, and they live up to their promises- it doesn’t smear across pen, marker, and ink jet printouts, it doesn’t bleed through thin papers, it works on all types of papers (even the glossy magazines), and it doesn’t dry out.

I personally have had a set of these since I was a freshman in college, and I still have them up until now.

The only issue that we’ve come across the Sharpie Accent Gel Highlighter when we tried one out is that it might be a struggle for you to highlight small texts since its tip is wider than your usual highlighter.

And since it is a gel highlighter, it might look waxy instead of being able to blend out smoothly like the usual fluorescent highlighters that Sharpie produce.

But all in all, this is still one of the best highlighter for thin paper and we highly recommend it.

Zebrite Double Ended Bible Highlighter Set

If you prefer ink highlighters instead of the gel ones, we highly recommend the Zebrite Double Ended Bible Highlighter Set.

These highlighters come in sets of 3 and 5, which gives you an option on how many highlighters do you want to purchase.

Each of these double-ended highlighters comes in different vibrant colors in its broad, chisel and fine bullet tip that are perfect for either highlighting texts or just underlining them.

Zebrite Highlighters are also water and smear resistant, its ink dries fast, and unlike any highlighter for thin paper, they never fade or feather.

The only downside for this highlighter is that, all of the colors except for the yellow one has the tendency to bleed through if pressed heavily on the other side of the page. This might be due to its pigmented ink, but it can be easily avoided if you lightly use it on the texts that you want to highlight.

Mr. Pen No Bleed Gel Highlighter

Another gel highlighter that we absolutely love is the Mr. Pen No Bleed Gel Highlighter.

These are thinner highlighters that come in 8 colors so you have a lot of options to choose from.

Because of its gel consistency, it’s guaranteed that it doesn’t bleed through thin paper, it doesn’t smear, you can glide it smoothly across any surface on your book, and it won’t dry out if you leave them uncapped.

This highlighter has a less waxy feel compared to the Sharpie Gel Highlighter, and on top of that, you can even sharpen it to achieve a finer tip.

Inamio Pastel Highlighter

If you are the more subtle and sheer type of highlighter junkie, the Inamio Pastel Highlighter is made just for you.

We have included this in our list of the best highlighters for thin papers because this highlighter works great for bibles and other books with thin paper.

It comes in 12 different pastel colors, it also has a dual-tip design with a chisel tip on one end and a fine tip on the other. It is made of non-toxic ink, and even if it comes in pastel colors, they don’t fade easily.

That only fault that we have seen on this highlighter is that you can’t highlight on the same text twice. By doing this, its ink will bleed through and be seen on the other side of the page.

BLIEVE Bible Pastel Highlighters

If you are not a big fan of flashy and fluorescent colors, you can buy the best highlighter for thin paper in pastel colors, and one of them is the BLIEVE Bible Pastel Highlighter.

It comes in 8 soft and pastel colors. It doesn’t smear, it doesn’t bleed through any types of paper, it can be sharpened into finer tip and better precision, it comes in a twistable tank, and it’s not as vibrant as any other highlighters that are designed for thin paper.

These highlighters don’t dry out easily even if you have left it uncapped for a long time.

It is also guaranteed that these don’t have any toxic ingredients so it’s also perfect for toddlers use.

What is the best highlighter for notes?

The best highlighter for notes are the fluorescent ink ones, because these can easily be written over by a pen or a pencil, as opposed to gel highlighters. They are also easier to erase using a correction tape or correction fluid, as opposed to the traditional gel highlighters.

What is the difference between Bible highlighters and regular highlighters?

The qualities of a bible highlighter that makes them different compared to the regular highlighters are they don’t bleed through pages. This quality is really important, as the paper used for the Bible is thinner than the usual paper that other books use, so a no-bleed formula is a must when you are looking for a highlighter for your Bible.

The other qualities that you should look for are they don’t smear or get smudged, and they dry faster than the normal highlighters.

Are gel highlighters better?

In terms of not bleeding through pages and not smearing when used, gel highlighters are indeed better compared to the fluorescent highlighters. However, these highlighters also have its cons.

For example, when you use gel highlighters, you might not be able to write over them, and they might stick the pages together because of their waxy consistency.

Some people even think that they feel like these function as crayons instead of highlighters.

However, your preference on highlighters will heavily depend on your need and on the type of paper that you will use it on.

So, if you need to use them on thin paper so it shouldn’t bleed through the pages, a gel highlighter is your best option.
