Known as the largest internet and cable provider in the United States, Xfinity has successfully gained over 26 million cable subscribers and 32 million internet subscribers throughout the country. They were able to successfully do this through reliable, steady, and fast internet and other innovations that they have introduced to the public in terms of entertainment and connectivity.

But despite being an internet giant, Xfinity users still experience some hiccups along the way. If you have questions about Xfinity and its services, this article might have the answers for you!

Static IP on Xfinity residential gateway

A Static IP or static IP address is the unique and universal address of a network that doesn’t change. If you avail of Xfinity’s services or connect to their internet, you will automatically have a static IP that helps them identify you as their user, allowing you to send and receive data.

Your static IP also helps save information about you such as your location, the websites that you frequently visit, stay logged into those websites, and do all other things that you do on the internet while you are connected to it.

Now when you pay for Xfinity’s services, you are given your own residential gateway, which comes in the form of a modem and router. This device serves as a bridge where you would connect the rest of your gadgets (mobile phones, computers, smart devices) to gain access to the internet and even connect those gadgets to each other.

It sounds pretty cool, isn’t it? Having your own static IP address that is solely dedicated to you, and this residential gateway could help you connect all of your gadgets to the internet.

How do I set a static IP address on Xfinity?

If you are interested in setting up your own static IP address using Xfinity as your internet service provider but are subscribed to their services as a residential account, you might not be able to do this. According to the information that they have on their website and as answered by their official customer support representatives, their static IP on a residential gateway feature is exclusively available for their Comcast business customers and Xfinity business customers.

If you do own a business account and you want to protect your online privacy or access content from remote locations, you can then manually set your own IP address on all of your devices. Here’s what you should do:

  1. Go to http://10.0.0.1
  2. Log into Comcast Business Gateway Admin Tool.

How much does a static IP cost Xfinity?

For Xfinity customers who own a business account, an add-on like a static IP exclusively for your network will cost you $24.95 per month.

It might not be very cost-effective, unlike a dynamic IP address that you can get for free, but if you want a more secure network, this is definitely worth the price.

How do I get a static IP address?

Once you have requested or ordered a static IP address for your Xfinity-issued device or Comcast-issued device, an employee would manually configure your static IP on your residential gateway remotely. There is no need for you to get your own firewall or other equipment to do this step, as business account owners are entitled to this feature, although this would, of course, cost you an additional fee.
